How to Create a Vimeo Account

← Return Read on ↓

Follow these simple steps to create and set up your school’s Vimeo account.

CREATE YOUR ACCOUNT

Step 1: Create Your Account

Open your web browser and go to www.vimeo.com.

You have two options:

  • Option 1: Sign up with your school email address and create a password.
  • Option 2: Sign up using Google (recommended if your school uses this service).

Tip: Use a generic school email address (e.g. marketing@schoolname.org or communications@schoolname.edu) rather than a personal one, so others can access the account later if needed.

CHOOSE A PLAN

Step 2: Choose a Plan

  • Vimeo will show you several plan options — Free, Starter, Standard and Advanced.
  • For most schools, the Standard plan is ideal. Note, the Free or Starter versions will not provide the privacy or branding settings, nor the file capacity, that you'll require.
  • Click “Select Plan” to continue.

Note: You can upgrade or downgrade your plan at any time.

Step 3: Confirm Your Email

  • Vimeo will send a confirmation email to the address you used.
  • Open the email and click “Verify Email” to activate your account.

SET UP YOUR PROFILE

Step 4: Set Up Your Profile

Click your profile icon (top right) → Settings.

Under Profile, add:

  • Your School Name as the profile name
  • A short bio or tagline (e.g. “Official videos from Mount Park Academy”)
  • Your school logo as the profile image
  • Your website URL

Step 5: Adjust Privacy & Upload Settings

  • Go to Settings Privacy.
  • Set who can see your videos. Choose “Anyone” for your public-facing website videos.

UPLOAD YOUR FIRST VIDEO

Step 6: Upload Your First Video

  • Click the “New video” button (top right) → “Upload”.
  • Drag and drop your video file or select it from your computer.
  • Add a title, description, and thumbnail image.
  • Choose a privacy setting before publishing.

Step 7: Organise Your Content

  • Use Folders or Showcases to group videos (e.g. “Admissions”, “Events”, “Student Life”).
  • Add tags to make videos easier to find.

Step 8: Share Your Videos

  • Click the Share icon to get:
  • A link (for emails or newsletters)
  • An embed code (for your website). See How to Create a Video Feature for embedding on your website.
  • Or post directly to social media

VIDEO SETTINGS

Step 10: Set Your Video for Sharing

  • Select Player from the left menu. Set the Primary, Accent, and Icon colours to correspond with the site colours.
  • Navigate to the Video Details section and select Hide All.
You may have to do this again after saving as Vimeo does not always remember your choice!
  • In the Controls section, select Hide Vimeo Logo.
You may have to do this twice as well.
  • Select Save.
  • Return to the main video screen and switch to the Interactive section.
  • Select End Screen, open the top dropdown menu, and select either Loop or Empty depending on your preference.
  • Save your changes.
  • Choose the Share button in the top-right of the window. Under Embed Privacy, set the dropdown to Anywhere.
  • Select Copy Embed Code.
ADD TEAM MEMBERS (OPTIONAL)

Step 11: Add Team Members (Optional)

  • Go to Settings Team Members.
  • Invite colleagues by email to manage uploads or review videos.

You’re all set!
Your school’s Vimeo account is now ready to host and share beautiful, professional videos.
